...suppose that 'the big bang', as theorized actually occurred, whether it began as a tiny spot in infinite nothingness or in a previously existing universe is irrelevant, but who is to say how often such an event occurs? it could happen at any time, could have happened yesterday or 100,000 or one million years or one billion years ago. were such an event to occur today, but 5 light-years away, we would not know of the event, nor out imminent demise until it occurred. the edge of the explosion, spreading across the universe like a ripple in a pond, even at the speed of light, would be undetectable. we may be doomed yet we carry on in our ignorance...
